Ford Escape: Exhaust System / Removal and Installation - Muffler and Tailpipe - Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV)

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting - 2.5L Duratec – Hybrid (121kW/164PS) (BG)) .
    1. Remove and discard the clamp.
    1. Remove the isolator bracket studs and the muffler and tailpipe assembly.
    • NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component.

      NOTE: Left-hand side shown, right-hand side is similar.

      Remove the isolator bracket studs.
      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
    • Detach the isolator and remove the bracket.

Installation

  1. Clean all exhaust connections before reassembly.
    1. Position the muffler and tailpipe assembly in the vehicle and install the isolator bracket studs.
      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
    1. NOTICE: Ensure that the service clamp is centred correctly over the joint, failing this could result in joint leaking.

      NOTE: Make sure that a new clamp is installed.

      Install the new clamp.
      Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)
  1. Check the exhaust system for leaks.
