PINPOINT TEST A: THE AUDIBLE PARKING AID IS INOPERATIVE

NOTE: Before disconnecting the PAM or any of the parking aid sensors, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.

NOTE: If a MyKey® restricted key is in use, the parking aid menu is not available in the message center and the parking aid cannot be deactivated.


Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 145 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to: Parking Aid - System Operation and Component Description (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Description and Operation).

A1 PERFORM A NETWORK TEST
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform a network test.

Do all modules pass the network test?
Yes GO to A2
No DIAGNOSE any communication concerns.
REFER to: Communications Network (418-00 Module Communications Network, Diagnosis and Testing).

A2 CHECK THE PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the PAM self-test.

Are any parking aid Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes REFER to the appropiate DTC Chart in this section.
No GO to A3

A3 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

Are any IPC Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
Yes
REFER to: Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes - Vehicles With: Head Up Display (HUD) (413-01 Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes, Diagnosis and Testing).
No GO to A4

A4 VERIFY THE PARKING AID IS ENABLED
  • Verify the rear parking aid and front parking aid (if equipped) is enabled in the IPC message center.

Is the parking aid system enabled?
Yes GO to A5
No ENABLE the parking aid system.

A5 CHECK FOR CORRECT GEAR INPUT
  • Apply the parking brake.
  • Ignition ON.
  • While monitoring the IPC PRNDL display, briefly select each gear in the entire gear range.

Does the IPC PRNDL indicator match the gear selection throughout the entire range?
Yes GO to A6
No
REFER to: Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes - Vehicles With: Head Up Display (HUD) (413-01 Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes, Diagnosis and Testing).

A6 CHECK THE AUDIO CHIMES
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Open the driver door.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the ON position.

Does the warning chime operate through the audio system?
Yes GO to A7
No
REFER to: Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes - Vehicles With: Head Up Display (HUD) (413-01 Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes, Diagnosis and Testing).

A7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all PAM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM .
REFER to: Parking Assist Control Module (PAM) (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

PINPOINT TEST B: B1B57:11

NOTE: Before disconnecting the PAM or any of the parking aid sensors, verify the connectors are properly seated and latched.


Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 145 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The PAM supplies voltage to the front parking aid sensors via a common circuit.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
PAM B1B57:11 Front Sensors Power Circuit: Circuit Short To Ground A continuous memory and on-demand DTC that sets when the front sensor voltage supply circuit is shorted to ground or the signal return circuit.

Possible Sources

  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Front parking aid sensor
  • Front active park assist sensor (if equipped)
  • PAM
B1 CHECK THE FRONT BUMPER WIRING HARNESS
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Inspect the front bumper wiring harness for opens, shorts, grounds, or corrosion.

Is the front bumper wiring harness OK?
Yes GO to B2
No REPAIR or INSTALL a new bumper wiring harness.

B2 CHECK THE LHF (LEFT-HAND FRONT) OUTER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT
  • Disconnect: LHF Front Outer Parking Aid Sensor C1428.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the PAM self-test.

Is DTC B1B57:11 present?
Yes GO to B3
No INSTALL a new LHF outer parking aid sensor.
REFER to: Front Parking Aid Sensor (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Removal and Installation).

B3 CHECK THE LHF (LEFT-HAND FRONT) INNER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: LHF Inner Parking Aid Sensor C1429.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the PAM self-test.

Is DTC B1B57:11 present?
Yes If the vehicle is equipped with active park assist, GO to B4
If the vehicle is NOT equipped with active park assist, GO to B6
No INSTALL a new LHF inner parking aid sensor.
REFER to: Front Parking Aid Sensor (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Removal and Installation).

B4 CHECK THE LHF (LEFT-HAND FRONT) ACTIVE PARK ASSIST SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: LHF active park assist sensor C1854.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the PAM self-test.

Is DTC B1B57:11 present?
Yes GO to B5
No INSTALL a new LHF front active park assist sensor.
REFER to: Front Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).

B5 CHECK THE RHF (RIGHT-HAND FRONT) ACTIVE PARK ASSIST SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: RHF active park assist sensor C1855.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the PAM self-test.

Is DTC B1B57:11 present?
Yes GO to B6
No INSTALL a new RHF active park assist sensor.
REFER to: Front Active Park Assist Sensors (413-13C Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Active Park Assist, Removal and Installation).

B6 CHECK THE RHF (RIGHT-HAND FRONT) INNER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: RHF inner parking aid sensor C1430.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the PAM self-test.

Is DTC B1B57:11 present?
Yes GO to B7
No INSTALL a new RHF inner parking aid sensor.
REFER to: Front Parking Aid Sensor (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Removal and Installation).

B7 CHECK THE RHF (RIGHT-HAND FRONT) OUTER PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN INTERNAL SHORT
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: RHF Outer Parking Aid Sensor C1431.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the PAM self-test.

Is DTC B1B57:11 present?
Yes GO to B8
No INSTALL a new RHF outer parking aid sensor.

B8 CHECK THE FRONT PARKING AID SENSOR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect PAM C4226B .
  • Measure:

Yes GO to G10
No INSTALL a new RHR outer parking aid sensor.

G10 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all PAM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM .

  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the PAM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the self-test.

Is DTC B1B38:08, B1B38:31, B1B38:1F or B1B38:64 still present?
Yes GO to K10
No INSTALL a new RHF inner parking aid sensor.
REFER to: Front Parking Aid Sensor (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Removal and Installation).

K10 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all PAM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM .

    Access the  PAM  and monitor the  LFI_DIST (cm)  PID

  • While monitoring the Parameter Identifications (PIDs), move a test object into and out of the detection zone behind each sensor. For an example of a test object,

Does the PID approximately match the distance from the test object to the front bumper of the vehicle?
Yes GO to O5
No GO to O4

O4 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSORS
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Install a new sensor for the suspect parking aid sensor.
    REFER to: Front Parking Aid Sensor (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Removal and Installation).
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Repeat the self-test. Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes GO to O5
No INSTALL a new front parking aid sensor.
REFER to: Front Parking Aid Sensor (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Removal and Installation).

O5 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all PAM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM .

P2 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR FOR PROPER VENTILATION

NOTE: The operating temperature range for the parking aid sensors is -40°C (-40°F) to 85°C (176°F).

  • Clean the front bumper and sensors with high-pressure water.
  • Make sure the suspect parking aid sensor(s) is flush-mounted in the bezel.
  • Check for damage, debris or any aftermarket air dams that may restrict sensor ventilation.

Is there any damage or aftermarket parts restricting the ventilation to the sensor(s)?
Yes REPAIR or REMOVE the parts as needed.
No GO to P4

P3 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSOR FOR AN OBSTRUCTION
  • Clean the rear bumper and sensors with high-pressure water.
  • Make sure the suspect parking aid sensor(s) is flush-mounted in the bezel.
  • Check for damage, debris or any aftermarket air dams that may restrict sensor operation.

Is there any damage or aftermarket parts obstructing the sensor(s)?
Yes REPAIR or REMOVE the parts as needed.
No GO to P4

P4 CHECK THE PARKING AID SENSORS
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Install a known good sensor for the suspect parking aid sensor.

  • Ignition ON.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and repeat the PAM self-test.

Is the concern still present?
Yes GO to P5
No The cause of the concern was an inoperative parking aid sensor. The system is now operating correctly.

P5 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect all PAM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

  • Rear parking aid.

Yes DIAGNOSE all non-network Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

No GO to T6

T6 RECHECK THE PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the PAM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Ignition ON.
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the continuous memory self-test.
  • Check the PAM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Is DTC U0100:00 U0293:00, U0401:00 or U0594:00 present?
Yes GO to T7
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have set due to high network traffic, or an intermittent fault condition.

T7 CHECK FOR OTHER CAUSES OF COMMUNICATION NETWORK CONCERN

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration can be incorrectly set during the PMI , or the PMI may not have been carried out.

  • CHECK the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the PCM or PAM . If recent service history is found:
    • verify correct replacement module was installed
      • vehicle parts build may be used to verify correct part fitment
    • verify the configuration of replacement module was correct
      • re-configure module using as-built data if prior configuration is suspect
    • verify the module was not obtained from a like vehicle and installed into customer vehicle
      • return the swapped module to source vehicle and obtain new replacement module
      • if a new replacement module is installed, PERFORM PMI using as-built data
  • Operate the system and determine if the observable symptom is still present.

Is the observable symptom present?
Yes GO to T8
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been due to incorrect parts replacement procedures, or incorrect module configuration.

T8 CHECK FOR CORRECT PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect and inspect the PCM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)

  • Disconnect and inspect the PAM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the PAM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable service articles: TSB , GSB , SSM or FSA . If a service article exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the service article instructions. If no service articles address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM .
REFER to: Parking Assist Control Module (PAM) (413-13A Parking Aid - Vehicles With: Rear Parking Aid, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.

PINPOINT TEST AG: U2024:00, U2100:00 OR U2101:00

PAM U2101:00 Control Module Configuration Incompatible: No Sub Type Information Sets in the PAM due to incomplete or incorrect PMI procedures.

AG1 CHECK VEHICLE HISTORY FOR RECENT SERVICE ACTIONS
  • Check the vehicle history for any recent service actions related to the PAM .

Have any service actions been performed?
Yes REPEAT the PMI as directed by the diagnostic scan tool.
No GO to AG2

AG2 RECONFIGURE THE MODULE
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using the diagnositc scan tool, perform the PMI as directed by the diagnostic scan tool.
  • Verify that the PAM functions correctly.

Does the PAM functions correctly?
Yes The system is operating correctly at this time. The concner may have been caused by incomplete or incorrect PMI procedure.
No If the PAM fails to retain configuration data. INSTALL a new PAM ,

PINPOINT TEST AH: U0300:57, U3000:44, U3000:45, U3000:46 OR U3000:49

PAM U3000:44 Control Module: Data Memory Failure Sets in the PAM when the PAM fails the read write check.
PAM U3000:45 Control Module: Program Memory Failure Sets in the PAM when there is a ROM memory checksum failure.
PAM U3000:46 Control Module: Calibration/Parameter Memory Failure Sets in the PAM when the PAM detects a read write failure in the EEPROM.
PAM U3000:49 Control Module: Internal Electronic Failure Sets in the PAM when module detects an internal failure.

AH1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE PAM (PARKING ASSIST CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
  • Ignition ON.
  • Using the diagnositc scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
  • Wait 10 seconds.
  • Using the diagnostic scan tool, perform the PAM self-test.

Is DTC U0300:57, U3000:44 U3000;45, U300046 or U3000:49 retrieved?
Yes INSTALL a new PAM ,
