Removal

Remove the rear halfshaft.
Refer to: Rear Halfshaft (205-05 Rear Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

Remove and replace the rear halfshaft seal.
Use the General Equipment: Flat Headed Screw Driver
Installation
-
Inspect the differential housing surface for rust, nicks
and scratches. Polish the differential housing surface with fine crocus
cloth, if necessary.

NOTE:
Installation of halfshaft oil seal without the correct tool can result in early seal failure.
Using the special tool, install the new rear halfshaft seal.
Use Special Service Tool: 205-990
Installer, Axle Seal.

Install the rear halfshaft.
Refer to: Rear Halfshaft (205-05 Rear Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

Check the RDU fluid level.
Refer to: Differential Fluid Level Check (205-02 Rear Drive Axle/Differential, General Procedures).

sideways to remove. Failure to press straight upward on the underside of
the cover at the attachment points may result in damage to the cover or
engine components.
