Ford Escape: Starting System - 1.5L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS) – I3 (Y1) / Removal and Installation - Starter Motor

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

  1. Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
  1. Disconnect battery terminals.
    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. Remove the retainers and position aside the coolant hose.
    • Disconnect the connector.
    • Detach the wiring harness retainers and position the wiring harness aside.
    1. Remove the battery terminal cap.
    1. Remove the starter motor solenoid battery cable nut.
      Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
    1. Remove the starter motor solenoid wire nut.
      Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)
    • Detach the wiring harness retainers.
    • Position the wiring harness aside.
  1. Remove the starter motor bracket nuts.
    Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
  1. Remove the starter motor studbolts, then remove the starter motor.
    Torque: 35 lb.ft (47 Nm)

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
