Ford Escape: Starting System - 1.5L EcoBoost (132kW/180PS) – I3 (Y1) / General Procedures - Starter Motor Drive Gear and Flywheel Ring Gear Inspection

Activation

  1. Refer to: Starter Motor (303-06C) .
  1. Check the wear patterns on the starter drive gear and the flywheel or flexplate ring gear. If the wear pattern is normal, install the starter motor.
    Refer to: Starter Motor (303-06C) .
  1. If the starter drive gear and the flywheel or flexplate ring gear are not fully meshing and the gears are scored or damaged, install a new starter motor.
    Refer to: Starter Motor (303-06C) .
  1. If necessary, install a new flywheel or flexplate.
    Refer to: Flexplate (303-01C) .
