Ford Escape: Rear Suspension / Removal and Installation - Rear Lower Arm
Removal
NOTICE:
Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the
performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners
may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if
replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser
quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

Remove the spring.
Refer to: Spring (204-02 Rear Suspension, Removal and Installation).

NOTE:
Note the position of the components before removal.
Mark the position of the rearward lower arm adjustment cam to the crossmember.

Remove and discard the rear lower arm-to-subframe bolt, washer and nut and remove the rear lower arm.
Installation

NOTE:
Only tighten the nuts and bolts finger tight at this stage.
Position the rear lower arm and install the new rear lower arm-to-subframe bolt, washer and nut.
Torque:
159 lb.in (18 Nm)

Install the spring.
Refer to: Spring (204-02 Rear Suspension, Removal and Installation).

NOTICE:
Tighten the suspension fasteners with the weight of
the vehicle on the wheels and tires or use a suitable jack to raise the
suspension to curb height or damage to the bushings may occur.
NOTE:
Make sure that the components are installed to the position noted before removal.
Install the rearward lower arm adjustment cam to the crossmember bolt and nut.
Torque:
111 lb.ft (150 Nm)

Check and if necessary adjust rear toe.

No factory-equipped vehicle should have more than a 25 mA
(0.025 amp) – 50 mA (0.050) draw depending on the vehicle's accessories.
Check for current drains on the battery in excess of 25 mA (0.025 amp) –
50 mA (0.050) with all the electrical accessories off and the vehicle
at rest for at least 75 minutes (depending on region)...
