Ford Escape: Hydraulic Brake Actuation / Removal and Installation - Brake Master Cylinder - Vehicles With: Vacuum Brake Booster
Removal
NOTICE:
If the fluid is spilled on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.
NOTE:

Remove the battery.
Refer to: Battery (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).

Detach the brake booster tube from dash panel and position aside.

NOTE:
Make sure that all openings are sealed.
If equipped.
Disconnect the brake tube fittings.
Torque:
159 lb.in (18 Nm)

NOTE:
Make sure that all openings are sealed.
If equipped.
Disconnect the brake tube fittings.
Torque:
159 lb.in (18 Nm)

Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector.

Remove the nuts and the brake master cylinder.
Torque:
18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
Installation

To install, reverse the removal procedure.

If a new brake master cylinder has been installed, bleed the master cylinder.

If the brake master cylinder was removed to access other components, bleed the brake system.
