Removal

Drain the cooling system.
Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding (303-03C Engine Cooling, General Procedures).

Disconnect the electrical connector.

Release the clamps and disconnect the coolant hoses.
Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
-
Remove the bolts, nut and the coolant pump.
Torque:
18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
Installation
-
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Fill and bleed the cooling system.

Inspection
NOTE:
Do not use a caustic cleaning solution or a wire brush to clean the pistons or damage can occur.
Clean and inspect the (1) ring lands, (2) pin bosses,
(3) skirts and the (4) tops of the pistons. If wear marks, scores or
glazing is found on the piston skirt, check for a bent or twisted
connecting rod...
NOTE:
The AWD system may be referred to as a 4WD
system or Active Torque Coupling (ATC) system in other service
information, owner literature, or messages located on the message
center.
