Ford Escape: Fuel Tank and Lines / Removal and Installation - Fuel Lines

Removal




  WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures may be present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation steps.

  1. Refer to: Gasoline and Gasoline-Ethanol Fuel Systems Health and Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
  1. Release the fuel system pressure.
    Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release (310-00C Fuel System - General Information, General Procedures).
  1. Disconnect the battery.
    Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, General Procedures).
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
    Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Remove the high voltage battery.
    Refer to: High Voltage Battery - Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) (414-03A High Voltage Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
  1. NOTE: Always wrap the fuel line connection with a towel before disconnecting it.

    Disconnect the quick connectors.
    Refer to: Quick Release Coupling (310-00B Fuel System - General Information - 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) – MI4, General Procedures).
    Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings (310-00B Fuel System - General Information - 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) – MI4, General Procedures).
  1. Detach the retainer clip.
    • Remove the retainers.
    • Remove the screws and position the RH wheel arch liner aside.
      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
    • Remove the RH air deflector.
    • Remove the retainers.
    • Remove the screws and position the LH wheel arch liner aside.
      Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
    • Remove the LH air deflector.
  1. Remove the nuts and heat shield.
    Torque: 22 lb.in (2.5 Nm)
    • Disconnect the front brake lines and detach the retainer clip.
      Torque: 150 lb.in (17 Nm)
  1. Detach the retainer clips.
  1. NOTE: Always wrap the fuel line connection with a towel before disconnecting it.

    • Remove the quick connectors.
      Refer to: Quick Release Coupling (310-00B Fuel System - General Information - 2.0L EcoBoost (177kW/240PS) – MI4, General Procedures).
    • Disconnect the rear brake lines retainers.
      Torque: 150 lb.in (17 Nm)
  1. Detach the fuel tube retainers and remove the fuel lines.

Installation

  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
  1. Bleed the brake system.

    Master Access Code

    What Is the Master Access Code

    The master access code is a factory-set five-digit entry code. You can operate the keypad with the master access code at any time. The master access code is on the owner’s wallet card in the glove box and is available from an authorized dealer.

    Displaying the Master Access Code

    To display the factory-set code in the information display:

    Ford Escape. Master Access Code

    Remove the rubber mat. Insert the first programmed key in the backup slot. Press the push button ignition switch once and wait a few seconds. Press the push button ignition switch again and remove the key. Within 10 seconds, place a second programmed intelligent access key in the backup slot and press the push button ignition switch.
