Ford Escape: Engine Cooling / Removal and Installation - Thermostat

Removal

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1. Drain the cooling system.
   Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding (303-03C Engine Cooling, General Procedures).
   

1. Release the clamp and disconnect the coolant hose.
   Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

1. NOTE: During installation, make sure the coolant inlet connection is fully seated on the thermostat housing before tightening the bolts.

   Remove the bolts and detach the coolant inlet connector.
   Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

1. Remove the thermostat. Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
   

Installation

1. NOTE: Component(s) must be lubricated with clean engine coolant.

   Lubricate the new O-ring seal.
   Refer to: Specifications (303-03C Engine Cooling, Specifications).
   

1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
   

1. Fill and bleed the cooling system.
   Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding (303-03C Engine Cooling, General Procedures).
